A citizen-built, practical guide for everyday readiness in Taiwan.
In a landmark address at the Shangri-La Dialogue on 31 May 2025, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth warned that “the threat China poses is real — and could be imminent,” a remark many observers called a “wake-up call.”
Prepare Your Light is one citizen-led answer. Launching on Flying V, one of the biggest crowdfunding platforms in Taiwan in July 2025, the project turns preparedness into an open, living resource for every household in Taiwan — and, we hope, a model for communities everywhere.

Light-Weight, Always-Live Resources
We publish interactive checklists mapped to our three-tier system (3-5, 7-14, and 30+ days), plus bite-size videos and auto-reminders. Everything is digital — so families stock only what they need, and our team can update the lists the moment realities change.

Inclusive by Design, Community Powered
Special modules cover pregnant people, older adults, young children, pets, and newcomers to Taiwan. A multilingual newsletter and real-time LINE alerts keep the whole community in the loop, while crowdsourced translations and resource swaps turn preparedness into a shared, ongoing movement.

Built for Earthquakes & Blockades
Taiwan faces both natural disasters and rising cross-strait tensions. Our guides merge classic emergency know-how with civil-defense tips, turning the same everyday drills into readiness for typhoons, cyber-disruptions, or a sudden naval blockade. The tone stays calm and practical, never fear-driven.

Each kit merges the essentials —
water, power backup, communications, medical supplies, and emotional well-being support.
It’s tailored for real-life homes in Taiwan and adapts to families at different stages of preparedness.

A Civil Readiness Movement
Across Taiwan, families are quietly preparing — not out of panic, but with care, clarity, and everyday wisdom.

Across Taiwan,
families are quietly preparing-
not out of panic, but with care, clarity, and everyday wisdom.
In recent years, Taiwan has seen a steady shift. More and more families — from urban apartments to rural towns — are beginning to prepare for an uncertain future.
Some start by storing clean water for 3 days. Others list emergency contacts and place them on the fridge. Many help their elders organize daily medications. A few join neighborhood chat groups to share updates and supplies.
These actions are simple, practical, and deeply human. They don’t reflect panic; they show a steady, citizen-led approach to readiness — shaped by lived experience and a shared sense of care.
Real moments from Taiwanese families: storing water, buying medicine, asking questions, sharing checklists. These small acts are steadily adding up.

“We skipped the ready-made kit and just started with water.”

"Knowing which shelter to head for helps us stay calm — and we hope we never have to."
“Knowing who to call helps us feel calm- even if we never need it.”

“This small bag isn’t about fear. It’s about care.”

Sometimes, readiness begins with a small message — and a shared invitation.

This isn’t just about Taiwan.
It’s about what democratic self-reliance might look like —
in Asia, and in a world facing disruption.

This movement in Taiwan may look simple — such as storing water, sharing checklists, and offering small acts of support — but it points to something deeper: readiness that is civic, collective, and calm. Across the island, initiatives like Prepare Your Light mark a steady shift led not by governments, but by everyday people.
Early signs are already visible: community bulletin boards, shared lists, steady momentum. Taiwan must contend with earthquakes, typhoons, and rising geopolitical tension; yet what’s emerging isn’t panic — it’s measured participation, rooted in care.
In a global era defined by shocks, we believe this story matters because it shows how communities can prepare not with fear, but with wisdom.

A small wall. A shared hope.

How This Began
How This Began
How This Began
This project started as a low-key conversation between two young Taiwanese families—caring for elderly parents, newborns, and pets—asking whether everyday preparedness could be both thorough and calm.
Leveraging backgrounds in writing, teaching, data science, and development, they began to organise knowledge: gathering research, interviewing households, drafting clear checklists, then field-testing what worked.
Aware of their limits, they invited local doctors, civil-defence trainers, and neighbourhood leaders to review the material, positioning themselves as connectors and curators from an everyday, citizen-level perspective.
They soon discovered a silent undercurrent: many neighbours worried they hadn’t done enough. Prepare Your Light showed them they weren’t alone—that others were just beginning to prepare, and that it wasn’t too late to start. With clear, respectful tools, readiness spread naturally, without fear.
Today, Prepare Your Light is becoming a public resource. Scheduled to launch on Flying V, one of Taiwan’s largest crowdfunding platforms in July 2025, it could reach hundreds of thousands of members and is already spreading through neighborhood chats, private groups, and social media.
Not a campaign—just quiet connections, steady support, and a simple idea ready to grow.
